Our musculoskeletal (MSK) system faces constant challenges throughout our work and personal lives. Whether from aging, repetitive motions, or past injuries, our physical health can be significantly impacted - particularly in an office environment. As many of us spend most of our workday seated at desks, extended inactivity can increase joint stress and lead to muscle deterioration.
Understanding these challenges, the City is committed to encouraging healthy workspaces. The City of Cleveland’s WellnessWorks offers various resources to assist employees in actively achieving a healthy work environment.

The City’s Wellness resources include:
  • SWORD Health - An innovative leader in musculoskeletal (MSK) care that complements workplace ergonomics.
  • Biz Library – The City of Cleveland’s resource library has a series of new videos to help employees reduce the chance of injuries and lower workplace stress.

Standing Desk
To help employees achieve a better work environment, the City is offering employees standing desks.
Standing desks are a great way to achieve a better MSK balance. Varying work positions can help slow the stress and pressure on our joints.

All benefit-eligible employees in any building with a work-station desk can request a standing desk option. To initiate the process, complete the Wellness Works! Program Acknowledgement Form

Wellness Works! Program Musculoskeletal I Workspace Policy

Goal: For every employee to maximize productivity and wellness through their everyday office equipment.
Policy: Wellness Works will provide a standing desk to all benefit-eligible City of Cleveland employees. Wellness Works will own the desks and maintain a bank of them to distribute upon request.

The program’s Equipment Acknowledgment form and departmental directors should have final sign-off on all requests. Standing desks funded through Wellness Works will remain the property of Wellness Works for distribution city-wide. Suppose department authorities choose to use their existing budget to support standing desks. In that case, those desks will remain the department's property, and Wellness Works will not be involved in the distribution, tracking, or storage of desks.
